Difference between herpes and folliculitis

Herpes is common affecting adolescent that caused by a virus known as Herpes Simplex Virus while folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair-producing follicles on the skin.
Both are looked like the same disorder but its not the same little bit of difference between them. Now we can check it out the difference between them.


Difference between Herpes and Folliculitis :

  • The appearance of herpes is small blisters that contain the yellowish fluid that occur individually or by clusters whereas in Folliculitis Pimple-like pustules or papules in various sizes near a hair follicle. The pustules contain pus and cause loss of hair shafts.
  • Location of herpes is oral and genital the area whereas Folliculitis occurs anywhere on the skin.
  • Blisters don’t usually leave scars in herpes while in Folliculitis pustules or papules that leave scars.
  • Herpes blisters are painful while Folliculitis papules are itchy rather than painful.
  • Herpes contain clear or yellowish liquid while Folliculitis contains pus.
 There are two types of herpes :
  • HSV-1
  • HSV-2
There are four types of folliculitis :
  • Bacterial Folliculitis 
  • Fungal Folliculitis 
  • Parasitic Folliculitis 
  • Viral Folliculitis
